- Internet experts* project there were more than 300 million Internet users worldwide at the end of the year 2000.

- Nielsen NetRatings reported that 115.2 million people in the U.S. used the internet in the month of October 2001 alone.
- The number of Internet users will increase six-fold to 1 billion within five years.
- Harris Interactive indicates that roughly 65 percent of U.S. adults use the Internet at home, at work or from other locations. That is slightly higher than the number of U.S. adults online 12 months ago, the data indicates.
- Harris researchers say the percentage translates to about 127 million adults in the U.S. who use the Internet, up from about 121 million in 2000. The poll also indicates that 52 percent of adult Americans use the Internet at home, compared to 28 percent who surf on the job.
- According to Intel CEO Craig Barret in an AP report, the most important part of that growth will be business-to-business transactions.
- The number of global Internet users making purchases over the web is expected to jump from about $30 million in 1998 to more than $180 million in 2003 -- totaling more than $1 trillion US dollars in e-commerce.
